Supplying BREEAM Excellent Mechanical Services For One Of The UK’s Busiest RDCs
Morrisons is the UK’s fourth largest supermarket group, serving customers across the UK through almost 500 stores and an extensive home delivery network. Keeping stores and online fulfillment centres supplied requires significant product storage capacity.
Operating 24/7 and located near Bridgwater, within sight of the iconic Willow Man outdoor sculpture, Willow Green is one of Morrisons’ busiest sites incorporating bulk storage for fresh, ambient and frozen products.
As part of a tight 45 week project schedule, the team from Mitton Group has completed the installation and commissioning of all mechanical services on the site, including heating and ventilation, gas, plumbing, building management controls system and cooling.
BREEAM ‘Excellent’ Ratings
With the remit to achieve a post construction BREEAM Excellent rating on completion of the build, innovation was the driver for Morrisons’ Bridgwater RDC team on this build. This reflects the supermarket giant’s own commitment to environmentally sustainable practices.
From the incorporation of solar systems and rainwater collection, with grey water systems augmenting toilet supplies right down to the inclusion of shut off valves, non-percussive taps and drives which ramp down when not needed, the entire site is a model for sustainability.
All systems link into a comprehensive Building Monitoring System to achieve and maintain optimum levels of performance across the board. Mitton also carried out a site-wide EPC for BREEAM purposes as well as individual building EPCs.
