M&E specialists Mitton Group have been awarded a contract for mechanical services at the new prison currently under construction at HMP Glen Parva in Leicestershire, on the site of the former Glen Parva Young Offenders Institution.
The new Category C resettlement prison is due to hold 1,680 men in the second-lowest risk category who are approaching the end of their sentences and is now scheduled to open in 2023.
Working on behalf of engineering enterprise Crown House Technologies, the Mitton team will be responsible for the mechanical fit out of a total of four house blocks at HMP Glen Parva. This will involve installing mechanical and public health services which will include sanitaryware fit-out for individual cells. The team will also be installing and commissioning modular pipework systems across the site.
This is the second major contract awarded to Mitton Group in this arena. Earlier this year, the team completed a similar project at the new HMP Wellingborough, also on behalf of Crown House Technologies.
Both prisons are major constituent parts of the new Government strategy to transform the prison estate to match the challenges of the future, steering offenders away from crime. The Ministry of Justice said construction would be environmentally friendly with ground materials recycled and greener building techniques, a commitment that matches Mitton Group’s own drive for sustainability and efficiency across all works.
“Mitton Group is ideally placed to manage contracts of this scale and importance, bringing together skilled teams from our depots around the UK,” stated Director Jonny Knowles. “We have significant experience of major projects in sectors from retail through to industrial and commercial, and have consistently demonstrated our abilities to complete strategically important works both on time and to budget.”Jonny Knowles, Director
