Gavin Lewis, Head of Controls & Electrical for Mitton Group, discusses how the electricals arm of the business has grown and developed over the past few years, showing the diversity of current contracts and demonstrating Mitton Group’s comprehensive capabilities from contract and design through to installation, commissioning and maintenance.
“Mitton Group first made the decision to invest in our electrical capabilities over three years ago, to complement the building services side of the business where we have enjoyed an established reputation for decades. Traditionally, we had partnered with other specialists on projects requiring M&E services, but we recognised the advantages of providing these services in-house in terms of control over quality and project delivery.
For our customers, this means that we can deliver combined electrical and mechanical packages nationwide to consistent quality standards through the Group’s nationwide service network, including specialist reactive maintenance and breakdown facilities. All our electrical engineers are qualified to appropriate NICEIC standards.
It’s a wide-ranging scope of services. Projects include boiler room upgrades, washroom refits and every size of new build or refurbishment project, together with complex lighting schemes for a number of retail clients. Our nationwide presence means we already have available and experienced local manpower teams to manage the roll-out of projects for customers with estates across the UK, including retail, industrial, commercial and pharmaceuticals.
We’ve also extended our capabilities during 2020 to include data systems and all associated structured cabling, recently completing a complex project on a new build science park complex. This specialist add-on service means we have the in-house capabilities to manage end to end electricals across a wide range of different industry sectors. We’ve also managed a number of electric car charging installations.
Alongside the electrical contracting work, our Yorkshire headquarters houses a control panel production facility. Here we now design and produce panels to meet challenging manufacturing, industrial and process requirements. Our solutions range from wall mounted enclosures to complex extended power distribution and monitoring systems, developed for instrumentation and mechanical plant.
Moving forward, our objectives are to continue to build on the range of expertise and portfolio of services offered by our team of electrical specialists. Our engineers have trained up on the most recent BS 5839 update enabling us to provide fire alarm maintenance services alongside our existing offer, whilst investment in CPD ensures our entire team operates in line with electrical installation BS7671 18th edition update.
Working closely with the Mitton Energy team, we aim to focus on efficiency and performance, integrating the latest technologies to deliver relevant packages for clients nationwide.”
