Installing Mechanical Services For A 900,00ft2 Ambient Warehouse
Morrisons is the UK’s fourth largest supermarket group, serving customers across the UK through almost 500 stores and an extensive home delivery network. Keeping stores and online fulfillment centres supplied requires significant product storage capacity.
The ambient bulk storage facility in Sittingbourne is one of seven locations operated by Morrisons, covering 900,000ft2 with a total of seven kilometres of aisles. In 2009, Mitton Group was commissioned to install mechanical services across the entire new build facility. This included heating, ventilating, air conditioning, gas, plumbing, building management system controls and cooling. As well as the warehousing space, the facility includes staff toilets, canteens and offices.
This was a major project requiring input from specialist teams located at Mitton depots across the UK. With a timeframe of less than 10 months, and further complicated by the need to manage inter trade cooperation as work was completed by other teams throughout the building, Mitton Group completed the project on time and to budget.
Today, Morrisons Sittingbourne ambient warehouse delivers to a total of 86 stores, picks product for online fulfillment and delivers to overseas wholesale customers as well as stocking product for onward delivery to other RDCs across the UK.
